Chapecó acts as the capital of the western region of Santa Catarina, in addition to being an important hub for Brazilian Agroindustry, with emphasis on poultry (slaughtering 790 million chickens per year) and pigs (where just one company slaughters 8 thousand heads per day), in addition to of special emphasis to the food processing industry, which exports to 150 countries. This sector alone has 155 companies in the city. The electromechanical sector, which serves this segment, has 650 companies according to SIMEC. The Chapecó industrial park represents 36% of companies in the city, and is the fastest growing sector. Composed of a great diversification of activities, the most important being those linked to the food products industry.
