What kind of maintenance should I perform on the Backup Ring?
Answer:
When changing a Swivel Seal (303204-01) you need to pull the Brass Backup Ring (303270-01) out of the Spindle Assembly. Once the ring is removed, you need to verify that the hole inside is round, the sharp edge is not damaged, and the grease seal is not pushed out.
Once these are checked, you will need to use a dental pick to clean out the Overpressure Ports of all of the seal material deposited from the Swivel Seal failure. If this material is not cleaned out, damaged may be caused to the Spindle.
